WCEC publishes recommendations for PSE Clean Energy Plan

WCEC distributed a public-facing summary of its recommendations for Puget Sound Energy’s Clean Energy Implementation Plan ahead of the March 2, 2022 WUTC public comment deadline. The two-page document called on the public to submit comments to UTC and outlined two primary changes.

  • PSE should reduce demand more aggressively through Demand Response and Time Varying Rates programs.
  • PSE should accelerate acquisition of wind, solar, storage, and distributed energy resources to reduce reliance on natural gas.
  • PSE’s forecasting models do not account for climate change, relying on 90 years of historical temperature data that no longer reflects current conditions.
  • Summer peak demand is likely to rise as warming continues; PSE should accelerate local solar and battery capacity to improve resilience during heat dome events.
  • The handout encouraged ratepayers and organizations to file written comments at utc.wa.gov by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2022 (Docket UE-210795).
