The Washington Clean Energy Coalition is an all-volunteer group of Washingtonians who care about consumers, the environment, and future generations.
That’s probably exactly how you might expect a non-profit to describe itself. So who are we, really?
Many of us first met representing organizations like the Sierra Club and the Northwest Energy Coalition in Puget Sound Energy’s advisory groups — citizen members helping shape and critique the utility’s long-range resource plans. It turns out PSE didn’t appreciate the input, and starting in 2021 the company excluded us from further participation. The Washington Clean Energy Coalition was born shortly after, so that public-interest voice wouldn’t disappear from PSE’s planning entirely.
We still submit written comments to PSE, but PSE routinely ignores them. Consequently, we focus on the venues where decisions can actually shift: the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (which regulates investor-owned utilities like PSE), the state legislature, and the governor’s office.
